The former editor of Kotoko Express, Jerome Otchere has expressed concern about government’s inability to invest at least $100,000 into the appointment of a coach for the senior national team, despite claims it has $25 million for a Black Stars' project.
Speaking on PM Express on Monday, he doubted the ability of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to handle matters since according to him, the Black Stars did not need a local as its head coach.
"We need to be very serious with what we are doing with the senior national team", he told host, Evans Mensah.
His comments come after the GFA terminated its appointment with Charles Akonnor and two other assistants.
This follows a report by the technical committee on the performance of the two world cup qualifiers played by the Black Stars.
Mr Otchere believes that one thing that was overlooked during the termination of CK Akonnor's contract was the quality of players in the national team.
According to him, the current players are not ones who can turn the tides around in their favour during a game even in two years.
"I think that is one area we need to pay attention to", he suggested.
He added that if the Association is so keen on qualifying to the semi-final stage of the World Cup, a foreign mentality should be adopted.
Mr Otchere explained that thinking foreign does not necessarily mean getting a foreign coach, but rather having a clear idea of what they want to achieve with the Black Stars and getting a coach who can deliver that target.
"If it is the winning of the Afcon again, we must be clear on how we want to do it and then go in for someone we believe can get the job done."
The former editor of Kotoko express said he is not surprised CK Akonnor has been sacked because a lot of things have gone wrong with Ghana football.
