The Ghana Health Service Council is warning of a herculean task ahead in Ghana’s Covid-19 fight as cases passes the 10,000 mark.
The Council in a statement to celebrate health workers in Ghana who have been leading the battle against the virus said even though positive strides have been made, a lot more needs to be done.
The statement was released just when Ghana’s coronavirus case count saw another big increase. The country now has 10,201 with 48 deaths, one of them, a 21 year old who had no underlying condition.
A Pharmacist and fellow at Center for Democratic Development CDD, Kwame Sarpong Asiedu has expressed worry over Ghana’s isolation and treatment facilities.
He warned that the health system in Ghana may be overwhelmed as the cases continue to soar.
“There are limits to the number of medical beds at our isolation centres," he says. "And I use the word medical beds very carefully because the medical beds are beginning to be constrained because our active case count has been going up"
“We need to start having a conversation about the active case count that we can conveniently deal with as a nation," he added.
