Ghana and Israel are set to strengthen their academic ties through a strategic partnership aimed at fostering a two-way exchange of cutting-edge innovation and technology.
The initiative, led by the Israeli Embassy in Ghana, will enable selected universities to participate in exchange programmes focusing on educational technology (EdTech), agricultural innovation, cybersecurity, and academic research.
The collaboration seeks to enhance STEM education, improve digital infrastructure in schools, and promote sustainable development through joint initiatives.
Key goals include EdTech innovation and bridging Israeli and Ghanaian EdTech companies, Agricultural development using Israeli greenhouse technology, Academic exchange and research in cybersecurity, and capacity building for Ghanaian professionals in digital education.
The Israeli Embassy has sent a delegation of Vice-Chancellors from Ghanaian universities to Israel to explore opportunities with leading institutions.
This was disclosed in an interview with Myjoyonline by the Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, Mr. Roey Gilad.

Mr. Roey Gilad highlighted Israel's commitment to supporting Ghana's future leaders through education. "As Ghana invests in students, they'll shape the future leadership of Ghana," he said, noting Israel's efforts to be relevant to Ghanaian universities like the University of Ghana.
The ambassador mentioned plans to introduce Israel studies and collaborate with other universities. "We just took eight vice-chancellors of different universities to Israel," he shared, emphasising the embassy's efforts despite limited resources.
He pledged Israel's commitment to supporting Ghana's development agenda through his country’s tech and innovation programme.
"We're introducing Israel studies and collaborating with universities like the University of Ghana," Gilad said, highlighting plans for coding collaborations and Ghana's one million coders initiative. "Israel is thirsty for coders... I see no reason why we shouldn't cooperate with Ghana," he added.
Last year, the University of Ghana hosted Ambassador Gilad to discuss potential initiatives, including a semester-long Israeli Studies course and artistic exchanges with Israeli professionals. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo welcomed the opportunity, prioritising engagement and partnerships in the University's new Strategic Plan.
She was particularly excited about collaborations in the arts, describing them as a refreshing expansion beyond the sciences.
