The Ghana Police Service says it is poised and well prepared for the 2012 Presidential and Parliamentary elections. Director in-charge of Operations DCOP John Kudalor told Joy News the service has gone back to the drawing boards to learn from their past mistakes in order to avert violence in the elections. Ghana has been hailed as a beacon of democracy in Africa following five elections which have generally been described by local and international observers as peaceful. However, there have been pockets of violence in small areas during the general elections, as well as by-elections. Typical examples include the recent ones Akwatia, Atiwa and Chereponi. The police have come under attacks from especially the opposition for not maintaining law and order in those by-elections. But DCOP Kudalor said they have gone back to the drawing board and learnt from their past mistakes. He said the police is well prepared and is optimistic that the election will be devoid of conflicts, attacks and brutalities.
