Ghana’s contingent to the London 2012 summer Olympics Games which starts from July 27, and ends August 12, 2012 could boycott the opening ceremony due to absence of their ceremonial outfits.
Team Ghana, which is currently in United Kingdom preparing for the games, is yet to receive the ceremonial dress and official kits for the games with just 8 days to the commencement of the games.
Speaking on the Ultimate Sports Show on Asempa FM, the second Vice President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Nii Adote Din Barima I, said the current situation Team Ghana finds herself in is worrying given that athletes need ample time to warm themselves into gears for their respective disciplines.
According to him, the athletes are training feverishly and are growing in confidence to make mother Ghana proud but the thought of not even responding to the roll call at the opening ceremony is very disheartening and it dampens one’s moral.
Nii Adote Din Barima I, who also doubles as the Chef de Mission, explained that all the participating countries are already clouded in their national kits and it will be better Ghana gets hers soon to forestall any disaster.
The leader of the delegation on a worrying note said he does not even have an idea of when the kits and the ceremonial dresses will be in.
It will be recalled that a similar incident occurred at the 2011 All Africa Games where Team Ghana failed to attend the opening ceremony because their ceremonial dress were not ready.
