The Atta Mills Institute has called on all Ghanaians, to embrace the values of 'fearless honesty', as the country marks its 65th Independence Anniversary.

In a statement by the President and Founder of the Institute, Koku Anyidoho, on March 6, the Institute expressed its profound gratitude to God, for how far it has brought the country, after attaining independence on 6th March, 1957.

According to the Institute, even though there are teething challenges that continue to impede the country's progress, there are still some feats worth celebrating.

It therefore called on all Ghanaians to continue to embrace good values that will move the country forward.

"The Words of the Anthem and Pledge, hold the keys to unlocking the doors of the vast reserves of the nation’s
mental drive in attaining higher heights of growth and development, and we must not downplay the value of
these two vital National Symbols.

At 65, let us commit ourselves to ensuring that we “CHERISH FEARLESS HONESTY”, in order for “GOD TO
BLESS OUR HOMELAND GHANA AND MAKE OUR NATION GREAT AND STRONG”. Let us also never forget to
say “I PROMISE ON MY HONOUR TO BE FAITHFUL AND LOYAL TO GHANA MY MOTHERLAND”, portions of the statement read.

As a Civic Education and Public Policy Advocacy, the Institute further called on Ghanaians to deepen the unity and peace currently being enjoyed by the country.

In its felicitations, the Atta Mills Institute, also expressed well-wishes to the national hockey team for their recent strides.

"We also take this opportunity to congratulate the national male and female hockey teams for qualifying for
the 23rd edition of the Commonwealth Games to be held in Birmingham, United Kingdom, from July 28 –
August 8, 2022.

The astute and ardent hockey player that he was, as Vice President, and also as President of the Republic of
Ghana, His Excellency John Evans Atta-Mills, changed the face of Ghana hockey by supporting the construction
of the first ever water-based Astro-turf hockey pitch in Ghana in 1999, and an ultra-modern world-class
National Hockey Stadium was built in 2009.

The improved facilities and greater attention to the game of hockey has brought the nation many successes – and we are grateful to the Ghana Hockey Association for keeping the flame alight", portions of the statement read.

"May the Lord Almighty continue to bless our Homeland Ghana and make us greater and stronger. Ghana shall not die; Ghana shall live to declare the glory of God! Blessed Happy Anniversary to us all", the statement concluded.

On March 6, 1957, Ghana gained independence from British colonial rule; an event which gave the country the freedom to govern its own affairs. The country's independence was declared by its first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, at the Old Polo Grounds in Accra.

Following this, successive regimes recognise the day with colourful parades across the designated locations in the country.

This year's Anniversary Parade was organised at the Cape Coast Stadium in the Central Region. The Special Guest of Honour, was Mia Amor Amottley, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Barbados.

After delivering her speech, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo also took to the stage to address Ghanaians. In his address, he stressed on the need for Ghana to safeguard its democratic gains, and maintain peace and stability., amongst other themes he touched on.

The theme for this year's celebration, "Working Together, Bouncing Back Together".
