Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK and Ireland, Papa Owusu-Ankomah has held pledged his support to promoting businesses owned in the UK and Ireland by Ghanaians.
According to Papa Owusu-Ankomah helping such business to grow forms part of “a Ghana beyond aid” vision by President Nana Akufo-Addo which also includes promoting Ghanaian businesses and firms, for national development in order to create jobs for the youth.
The High Commissioner disclosed this when he held discussions with officials of UnityLink, an indigenous Ghanaian-owned money remittance business which has been operating via its United Kingdom headquarters for over twenty years.
He assured the UnityLink officials of the High Commission’s unrelenting support to promote Ghanaian-owned businesses including UnityLink among the Ghanaians resident in the United Kingdom during consular outreaches.
The UnityLink representatives at the meeting included Mr. George Boateng, Head of Business Development and Marketing, Mr. Kingsley Amfo-Gyamera, Marketing Manager and Mr. Kevin Basson, Compliance Manager.
The officials from UnityLink indicated how they have contributed to the growth of the economy by acting as a link for small/medium sized money transfer companies by providing a platform for sending remittances to Ghana.
The officials of UnityLink further indicated that they are collaborating with their partners in Ghana to improve upon their services provided to Ghanaians in the diaspora.
Among others, they have created a platform for Ghanaians in the diaspora to open accounts back home, make transfers through e-zwich and GhIPSS as well as continue to offer Life insurance coverage in collaboration with Enterprise Assurance in Ghana.
Apart from the above-mentioned, they also intend to launch a mobile money app to augment their services.
