Bernice Dapaah, the CEO of Ghana Bamboo Bikes Initiative, has been honored with the World Entrepreneurship Forum’s “Entrepreneur for the World Award” for her impact on society and capacity to change the world.
The Award is given to talented entrepreneurs who have excelled in their entrepreneurial pursuits and demonstrated extraordinary dedication and commitment in their creative endeavours.
Under her leadership, Bernice nurtured the Ghana Bamboo Bikes Initiative from a project idea, which she pledged as a commitment project of President Clinton Global Initiative University, into an award winning social enterprise.
It has won several international awards including the 2014 UNEP/Dubai International Award, 2013 UNFCCC Momentum For Change Light House Activity Award (Women For Results Category), World Business and Development Award 2012, UN Habitat/Dubai International Best Practice Award 2012, Samsung/Generations For Peace Impact Award 2012, GIZ Impact Business Award 2011, and UNEP SEED Initiative Award 2010.
Last month, Bernice was honored as World Ambassador of the World Bamboo Organization.
She was honored again at the ongoing 8th edition of the World Entrepreneurship Forum in Hangzhou, China together with four other exceptional entrepreneurs including Timothy Draper, Mao Jingxiang, Professor Wong Poh Kam and Francesco Piazzesi Tommasi.
Among the previous winners are Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group, Jean-Baptiste Richardier, director and cofounder of the NGO Handicap International and Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland.
Founded in 2008 by EMLYON Business School in France, the WEF has been joined by Action Community for Entrepreneurship (ACE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore and Zhejiang University in China.
Since its founding, the Forum has selected and brought together more than 1000 members from 80 countries: business and social entrepreneurs, experts, investors.
The output of the World Entrepreneurship Forum is designed to stimulate creative thinking that leads to action and innovation.
