Ghanaian teacher, Morkporkpor Fiador, attempts for the Guinness World Records (GWR) Longest Marathon Reading Aloud, has been postponed.
Organizers of the event announced the postponement in a press statement, citing critical challenges in funding, sponsorship, and government support.
The event, which was initially scheduled to take place on December 26, 2024, aimed to support Morkporkpor Fiador's attempt to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the Longest Marathon Reading Aloud.
In the press statement issued by Edward Nketiah, Team Secretary, the postponement was attributed to four main factors: including lack of corporate sponsorship, insufficient funding, limited government support among others.
“We hope this message finds you well. After careful observation, consultations, and further considerations, we would like to inform you that the Morkporkpor Read-A-Thon has been postponed to a future date, yet to be determined.
“Key factors influencing the postponement :
“1. Lack of corporate sponsorship: the election has diverted attention and resources, impacting our fundraising efforts.
“2. Insufficient funding: our setup and publicity costs remain unmet, hindering event preparation.
“3. Limited government support: essential collaborations and referrals from government and its agencies have not materialized. We anticipate renewed opportunities for negotiation and support following the successful election,” part of the statement said.
The statement added, “ The way forward: the new date would be circulated in the public domain after stakeholder consultation…we extend our heartfelt gratitude to each of you for your tireless efforts, dedication, and unwavering commitment so far. Your contributions have laid a solid foundation for future success. Thank you for understanding. Your patience and continued support are invaluable.”
The organizing team assured stakeholders that a new date would be determined after thorough consultations.
Fiador, serves as a Field Engineer ‘A’ teacher with the 5 Garrison Education Unit under the 48 Engineer Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces.
Throughout her career, she has demonstrated unwavering dedication to education, teaching at institutions such as Apam Presby and 5 BN Basic School.
