GhanaMade Company Limited, a leading private company that focuses on promoting and marketing locally produced rice and other made in Ghana products, has organized and sponsored a day’s trip to the Kakum National Park for the inmates of ‘Save Them Young’, an orphanage located at Bethlehem, an Ashaiman suburb.

Explaining the reason behind her company’s decision to organize the trip for the inmates of the orphanage, Mrs Comfort Aniagyie, Managing Director (MD) of GhanaMade noted that it was to help Ghana and Africa at large to achieve total economic emancipation.

“One of the means to do that is to catch our children young and get them to appreciate the key pillars to achieving economic independence. One of these pillars is nature conservation and using the Kakum National Park, which is the second largest National park in Ghana is a good example for the children” the GhanaMade MD remarked.

The children, she said, learnt a lot from the knowledge and indefatigable tour guide through whom they learnt that the Kakum National Park covers a rainforest area of 375sqkm. During the excursion that lasted well over two hours, the children were informed that the park is a home to about 550 species of butterflies, 400 species of bird, 100 species of mammals like elephants, reptiles and.

The main attraction of the excursion was the Canopy Walk which really elicited peals of fear-tinged laughter from the children. “The excitement induced in them, we hope, would make scientist out of a good number of them” Mrs Aniagyei stated and added that it could only inure to the benefit of Mother Ghana.

The children, she pointed out, saw the benefits of internally-generated eco-tourism with streams of mainly local tourist climbing up the Kakum hills to have the Canopy Walk experience. She also commented, “We at GhanaMade believe that this would help imprint on their tender minds an appreciation of how the conservation of nature and the environment could earn Mother Ghana sustainable economic benefits than the environment-destroying galamsey operations”.

Touching on the performance of GhanaMade during the year 2013, Mrs Aniagyei stated that sales were generally high in all her outlets and expressed appreciation to all her workers who worked tirelessly and were always present in all the company’s outlets to ensure that customers were always attended to.

Turning her attention to customers especially the company’s loyal customers, she said she was appreciative of their continuous loyalty to GhanaMade and hinted that she was considering opening other outlets to meet the requirement of the ever increasing customer base in other parts of the country.

She said the recognition of GhanaMade performance by the Association of Ghana Industries is an indication that the company was doing well and quickly stated that she was delighted that GhanaMade’s performance over the last five years since its establishment has caught the attention of the AGI.

“The recognition really came to us a pleasant surprise, and I must say that this will further spur us to do a lot more in marketing and promoting made-in-Ghana products,” she pointed out.

Speaking about their experiences, some of the children said even though they were initially scared to go on the Canopy Walk they later realized that it was after all fun. 

A Senior Home Mother at the Orphanage, Doreen Coffie who accompanied the children on the excursion thanked the GhanaMade MD for the kind gesture and hoped that the children will build on all that they have learnt on the trip.

In a related development, GhanaMade donated made-in-Ghana products valued at over GH¢3,100.00 to the orphanage. The products included, Oman Ba fragrant rice, broken rice for waakye, omotuo and rice water, vegetable cooking oils, bathing soaps and body creams as well as a Gas Cylinders for cooking their meals.
