President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to reject ill-got wealth and embrace integrity as the country works to reset its national values.
In a message to Ghanaians in the diaspora to mark Ghana Independence Day on March 6, 2026, the President said the country’s progress depends not only on policy reforms but also on a shift in attitudes and expectations among citizens and leaders.
According to him, rebuilding the nation requires a renewed commitment to honesty, accountability, and responsible leadership.
“Resetting Ghana is about resetting values, resetting expectations, and resetting the very relationship between leaders and the led,” President Mahama said in the address.
The President emphasised that national development cannot be sustained if society continues to celebrate wealth acquired through dishonest means.
“We must teach our children that integrity is non-negotiable; that wealth acquired through dubious means is a curse and not a blessing, and that true success is measured not by what we accumulate, but what we contribute to national progress,” he stated.
His remarks come as the government continues to push its broader national “reset” agenda, which it says is aimed at strengthening institutions, promoting transparency, and rebuilding public trust in governance.
The message was directed particularly at Ghanaians living abroad, many of whom play an important role in the country’s development through investments, remittances, and advocacy.
President Mahama encouraged the diaspora community to remain engaged in national development efforts while also helping to promote values of integrity and accountability.
Ghana marked its 69th Independence Day on March 6 with renewed discussions about governance, national identity, and the role of citizens in shaping the country’s future.
