The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) is encouraging the Immigration and Fire services to deploy information communication technologies to improve work efficiency.
Chief Executive of GIFEC, Kofi Attoh, said although the two agencies have performed creditably over the years, adopting ICT-driven innovations to their operations would enhance their performance.
GIFEC has been providing support to security agencies by setting up ICT centers and offering training for the various institutions to operate in line with international standards. It is currently setting up an up-to-date ICT center at the Immigration Training School at Assin Fosu at no cost.
The military, police and prisons have all benefited from GIFEC training modules and programs with the latest additions being the Fire and Immigration Services.
Twenty eight officers from across the country have been receiving tutorials in ICT at the John Agyekum Kuffuor ICT Center at Nkwantakese in the Afigya Kwabre District of the Ashanti region.
Mr. Attoh says the current occupational pressures demand that personnel from both the Fire Service and the Immigration Service update themselves with global trends.
“Fire, is a big business in America and they have helicopters. How they map-up the fires; how they dig holes; how they do fire belt. There are so much that you can learn on the net about firefighting.
What are the latest equipments and how would people be trained to do. All these things are on the net. They can even take the training manual from the net.
Immigration is a big business all over the world. People are crossing from Mexico to America on daily basis and they have all sets of structures”.
Meanwhile, the District Commander at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Fire Station, DO II Adjei Fofie is also urging personnel of the service to embrace ICT training to improve performance.
According to him, the service has no option than to accept the opportunities presented by ICT.
