The Global Evangelical Church is advocating stiffer punishment for child sexual abuse offenders.
Presbytery Chairman, Rev. Prof. Frank Fugar, believes existing laws are not deterrent enough.
“Sexual abuse is becoming too much in the country. Hardly any week passes without hearing or reading about defilement and sexual abuse in one part of the country,” he bemoaned.
At the 2018 Kumasi Presbytery Representative Conference, he charged parliament to re-examine the situation and find ways to curb the rising trend.
He also encourages churches and other stakeholders to embark on aggressive public education, especially, in schools. The theme for this years’ conference is “Thy Kingdom Come: making Christ-like disciples.
Reverend Fugar laments church teachings have in recent times focused on wealth and health.
“Naming and claiming, it is about overcoming Satan and satanic, prophecies. It’s about breakthroughs and prophecies,” he said.
“It’s therefore not surprising that a country full of Christians who go to church every Sunday crime and corruption and other forms of evil continue to rise,” he added.
He encouraged the church to uphold true love of God and obedience to his commandments as the only way to overcome these hurdles.
Translator at the Bible Society of Ghana, Wonderful Adjei-Arthur, says translation of the Bible into Bono has started.
He says this will enforce the society’s aim of making the bible available and affordable to all manner of ethnic groups.
“If you hear a message in your own language the understanding is better,” he said.
