The Managing Editor of the Al Hajj newspaper, Alhaji Iddrisu Bature has urged the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to seek redress in court if they believe the Electoral Commission (EC) has been unfair to them rather than beating war drums. He said the actions of the NPP gives cause for worry especially when the country is preparing for a crucial election next year. Alhaji Bature was reacting to issues raised by the NPP on EC’s refusal to convene an Inter-Party Advisory Committee(IPAC) meeting but secretly met with the leadership of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the biometric registration process. The NPP have accused EC of conniving with the NDC to rig the 2012 general elections in their bid to retain power. The situation has become murkier after the National Chairman of the NPP; Jake Obetsebi Lamptey is reported to have said on Oman FM, a private radio station in Accra that the violence that erupted in Ivory Coast could be replicated in Ghana since it was championed by Akan speaking people in the French speaking country. Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey is also quoted as urging Akan speakers who dominate his party to demand their rights as citizens of this country if they feel disgruntled with the processes leading to the 2012 general elections. But Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey says the ruling party has quoted him out of context for propaganda purposes. However, Alhaji Bature on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme opined that comments by the leadership of the NPP are subversive which has the tendency of inciting other ethnic groups against each other. He recalled the infamous ‘All die be die’ comment by the flag bearer of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as part of the ploy by the party to propagate violence in 2012. Alhaji Bature cautioned the NPP not to take the peace and tranquility of the country for granted in their desperate attempt to unseat the NDC in 2012. The NDC sympathizer noted that the actions of the NPP could create doubts on the minds of Ghanaians on the ability of the EC to conduct a free, fair and transparent elections. “If the NPP has a genuine cause to suspect that the Electoral Commission is not living up to expectation; they can go court". Alhaji Bature called on all peace-loving Ghanaians to rise against any group or individuals seeking to put the country into turmoil.
