The Imam of the Kumasi Central Mosque, Alhaji Abdul Momin Haroun, has lauded Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his continuous faith in God, assuring him that victory will be his portion in the 2014 presidential primary of the New Patriotic Party, and also in the presidential election of 2016.
Alhaji Abdul Momin Haroun made this known when Nana Akufo-Addo joined Muslims at the Kumasi Central Mosque to perform Jummah (Friday prayers), immediately after he delivered a speech to commemorate the 1st anniversary of the Supreme Court's verdict on the election petition.
The Imam recalled that Nana Akufo-Addo, prior to the holding of the 2010 presidential primary, was the only aspirant to have called on the Imams at the Kumasi Central Mosque for prayers and went on, subsequently, to secure a landslide victory.
Alhaji Haroun noted that Nana Akufo-Addo has, so far, been the only presidential aspirant from the NPP who has taken time to visit the Central Mosque, ahead of Sunday's Special Electoral College, adding that it was a clear sign of massive victory ahead for him.
The victory, according to the Imam, will transcend beyond the NPP presidential primary onto the election of 2016, with Nana Akufo-Addo being declared winner of that year's election and Ghana's next President.
The Sarkin Zongo of Kumasi, Alhaji Omar Farouk Saeed, also applauded Nana Addo for his acceptance of the verdict of the election petition. He explained that this singular act by Nana Akufo-Addo went on to preserve Ghana's peace and maintain her status as the model of democracy for Africa.
According to him, Africa has witnessed a plethora of electoral disputes which have resulted in conflict and war across the continent. However, Nana Addo's decision to resort to the court of law to seek redress in the disputed election of 2012, and not asking for a review of the Court's 5-4 decision, which he was entitled to, was a mark of a man who has Ghana at heart.
This show of tolerance and patience, according to Alhaji Omar Farouk Saeed, has endeared Akufo-Addo to Ghanaians and the world at large, adding that Akufo-Addo will be rewarded by God, NPP delegates and Ghanaians, firstly in the NPP presidential primary and the election of 2016.
Nana Akufo-Addo, on his part, thanked Alhaji Abdul Momin Haroun and Alhaji Omar Farouk Saeed for their kind words.
He asked the regional Imam and the other Muslim clerics gathered for a three-fold prayer: firstly, to thank God for allowing peace to prevail in Ghana after last year's Supreme Court verdict and also for God's continuous blessings on Ghana; secondly, to pray for peace and cordiality in the NPP presidential primary that on Sunday; and thirdly to pray for victory for him and for God to give him, wisdom, strength and a compassionate heart to be a good leader.
Nana Akufo-Addo was accompanied by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Antwi Boasiako, alias Chairman Wontumi; Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, MP for Kwadaso; Dr. Kwame Amoako Tuffuor, member of the NPP's National Council; Mr. Akwasi Nti Asamoah, NPP Chairman for the Fomena constituency, amongst others.
