Government says it is surprised at the current stance taken by the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) to oppose the Urban Transport project which seeks to improve the traffic situation in the capital and in urban areas.
Deputy Transport Minister Dr. Nii Oakley Quaye-Kumah,tells Asempa News there has been an extensive interaction between government and all stakeholders spanning several years including the GPRTU, hence the turn around by the GPRTU comes as a shock.
The Deputy Minister was responding to concerns from the GPRTU that implementation of the urban transport project will put them out of business.
The Deputy Minister says, the urban transport project will be given to transport unions to run so the idea of they being put out of business does not arise.
