The Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah has reiterated government’s commitment to creating decent job opportunities for the teeming youth.
According to him, the Ministry through its partnership with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development hopes to create more employment opportunities for the youth to address issues related to migration to work through its new Ghanaian-European Centre for Jobs, migration and development.
The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations and the German Federal Ministry for Economic cooperation and development launched the Ghanaian-European Centre for Jobs, Migration and Development. The Centre will address migration issues of people who want to migrate to Germany to work or study.
Speaking at the launch of the center, the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah said government in partnership with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development hopes to create more jobs for the youth to reduce irregular migration.
“Many of the youth are distressed and they think that they do not have any hope locally because they are not finding any jobs to do and even if they get jobs, the income they make are so low. Our major preoccupation as a country has been to build a solid economy that will encourage people to invest in such economies and create jobs that people would take advantage of”, he said.
“Given the global recent events, its having a toll on our economy and because of that more people are losing their jobs that is why we welcome this delegation and we want to plead with you, whatever ways you can support us to be able to revive our economy, it is welcomed”.
German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Svenja Schulze added that her outfit is committed to helping create jobs in Ghana to foster economic development.
The center will work closely with national partners and local institutions to support them in promoting a development oriented governance of labour migration.
The centre will also serve as a contact point for returnees from Germany, Europe or other countries who need support for sustainable reintegration in Ghana.
