The Grace Baptist Church in Kumasi has put itself forward to serve as a valuable partner in community development and empowerment.
As part of its corporate social responsibility projects, the Church has delivered 20 litter bins to the metropolitan assembly to promote environmental sanitation.
The bins are to be positioned in the Amakom suburb and surrounding communities – highly populated by educational institutions – to improve waste collection.
Members of the Church have also committed themselves to undertake regular clean-up exercises in the community, and in other deprived social institutions in the Ashanti region.
Associate Pastor, Reverend Ben Oppong, told Luv FM the Church was entrenching a holistic ministry that sought to advance both the spiritual and physical well-being of the individual.
He said the provision of the waste bins is important to safeguard public health. “We’ve noticed that people litter around and as Christians, the Bible says that ‘cleanliness is next to godliness’ and we want to help keep the environment clean.
“The human being is made up of both physical and spiritual; and as you cater for the spiritual needs, you also have to cater for the physical and sociological needs of the people you’re ministering to, so we do all those things”, Rev. Oppong stated.
Environmental Officer at the Subin Sub-metro, Emmanuel Sankyi, who took delivery of the bins for the KMA, enjoined corporate institutions to support the assembly’s environmental sanitation drive.
