The immediate past Deputy Director of Strategy and Corporate Affairs of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Eric Ametor-Quarmyne says calls on the president to sack Sylvester Mensah, head of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) are misplaced.
A group calling itself the Alliance for the Empowerment of NDC Constituency Branch claims Mr. Mensah has failed to give the scheme a facelift.
According to the group, the NHIA boss for the past four years has failed to implement the one-time premium government promised Ghanaians despite the enormous resources available to him.
Chairman of the Alliance, Ebenezer Arkutu said their call on President Mahama to sack Sylvester Mensah is because he [Mensah] is a "failure, burden and a liability".
But Ametor-Quarmyne on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday minced no words describing the group’s call as an act of 'ignorance'.
He said the group has demonstrated beyond reasonable doubts that it lacks knowledge about how the NHIA is run.
Ametor-Quarmyne noted that Sylvester Mensah deserves commendation than a sack because he saved the NHIA from going in a ditch.

He intimated that at the time Mr Sylvester took over the NHIA in June 15 2009, it was in shambles but through the able leadership of Mr. Mensah, the scheme has been transformed to what it is now.
Ametor-Quarmyne who is also a communications consultant for the Authority cited how the introduction of the capitation, electronic payment system, clinical audit and call centre by the NHIA boss has brought phenomenal changes to the scheme.
He added that the scheme has been able to recover monies which prior to the introduction of these interventions by the NHIA boss would have gone into individual pockets.
Ametor-Quarmyne said it is absurd and very unfortunate that people in the NDC have failed to acknowledge Sylvester Mensah’s contribution and are rather seeking his downfall.
