The Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana has joined calls for justice for a 15-year-old boy who was shot and wounded by police in Walewale.
The incident occurred when some personnel in the North East Region stormed a nightclub in the town to enforce the ban on public gathering and reopening of drinking spots.
The Association has petitioned the Municipal Chief Executive Officer asking for an independent investigation into the incident following similar demand made by a group calling itself 'Concerned Youth of Walewale'.
The boy, Amadu Yussif, was wounded in the buttocks by a live bullet allegedly fired by the police in an attempt to disperse the crowd.
The victim confirmed he was shot by a police officer and insist he could identify the said officer if paraded.
The police has denied shooting the boy and said they only fired warning shots after the crowd attacked them with stones and guns.
Over the weekend, the Teacher Training Association became the second group to demand justice for the boy, who is now crippled and undergoing treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
National Secretary of the Association, Issah Shamso, who presented the petition, asked the MCE to set up an external body to investigate the police and ensure justice for the victim.
A brother of the victim, Halidu Mudasir, said the family would petition the IGP if authorities failed to heed to their demand.
