The Ghana Union of Traders Association, GUTA wants government to suspend the operations of the taskforce at the Tema port. The traders are raising concerns about the frustrating procedures they go through in clearing their goods from the port. According to them, they endure embarrassing supervision and sometimes their cargoes are delayed without any justifiable explanation. President of GUTA George Ofori told Joy News some of their members also complain of being harassed by the taskforce. He therefore called on government to disband the taskforce to ensure sanity at the ports. But in a reaction the deputy Information Minister Felix Kwakye-Ofosu said government will first investigate the concerns by the traders. He said it is not in the interest of government to put bottlenecks at the ports to frustrate the traders. He explained that the taskforce was instituted to seal the loopholes deliberately created by some traders to cheat the system. Kwakye-Ofosu was quick to add that some of these agitations may be coming from persons who have been disadvantaged by the activities of the task force. That notwithstanding, he said government will look into the agitations and provide the necessary solutions.
