A delegation from the World Health Organisation (WHO) has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to discuss technical support for two flagship government programmes, the Free Primary Health Care (FPHC) initiative and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF).
The engagement forms part of the government’s broader efforts to ensure that no Ghanaian is denied access to essential healthcare services due to financial constraints.
The Health Minister described the Free Primary Health Care programme as a transformative step toward achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Ghana.

He explained that the initiative aims to enhance financial protection, expand service coverage, and strengthen the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery nationwide.
He further noted that the FPHC seeks to eliminate user fees at the point of care for essential preventive, promotive, and basic curative services delivered through the primary healthcare network, including CHPS compounds, health centres, and polyclinics.
Led by the WHO Country Representative to Ghana, Dr Fiona Braka, the WHO team commended the government of Ghana for its leadership and commitment to advancing these two vital initiatives.

She reaffirmed WHO’s continued partnership and technical support to ensure the successful implementation of the FPHC and GMTF as key pillars in achieving equitable and accessible healthcare for all Ghanaians.
