Sylvanus Gomado, a herbalist on Thursday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old pupil. The victim had consulted Gomado, aged 25, for rituals for retentive memory but the accused took advantage of her. Charged with defilement, the court presided over Mrs Justice Georgina Mensah-Datsa did not take Gomado’s plea. The court has therefore remanded Gomado into Police custody to reappear on January 9 as the case was still under investigations. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarah Acquah prosecuting said the complainant was the victim’s guardian who resides at New Achimota and the accused lives at Tabora in Accra. ASP Acquah said on December 31, 2011, the victim contacted the accused person that she wanted rituals for retentive memory, and at about 11:00 pm, the accused called the victim on phone and asked her to come to his house for the rituals. The victim who was then in the company of friends at an All Night Service went to the house of the accused where he put some leaves into water and bathed the victim. ASP Acquah said the accused put some leaves under a pillow and asked victim to sleep on it and within some few minutes fell asleep, and while asleep the accused defiled her. The prosecutor said when the victim woke up the following day, she experienced some abdominal pains and when she quizzed Gomado, he kept mute and gave her one Ghana cedi for transport. She said when the victim reached home, she informed her guardian who lodged a complainant with the Police who transferred the matter to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit. A medical form was issued to the victim for examination.
