Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency and Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has commended Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga for his exceptional leadership and diplomacy within the legislative body.
Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga in the wake of the chaos that erupted during the vetting of ministerial nominees, made a passionate plea to colleague MPs to preserve the integrity of Ghana’s democracy.
In an address to the press on Friday, January 31, Afenyo-Markin praised Mr Ayariga for his exemplary conduct, noting that his leadership style and commitment to transparency have set a positive example for others in Parliament.
“I must also commend Honourable Mahama Ayariga, he has shown leadership, his diplomacy is at all times the best, he has done well,” Afenyo-Markin said.

He went on to emphasize the importance of Ayariga’s efforts in fostering a peaceful and cooperative atmosphere in Parliament, suggesting that if Ayariga’s approach continues, it would contribute to a more harmonious legislative environment.
"His engagement and the transparency he has introduced should he continue, we would have a very peaceful Parliament. How he engages us is the way to go in this Parliament," Afenyo-Markin stated.
However, the tone of the address shifted when Afenyo-Markin directed his comments towards the Member of Parliament (MP) for South Dayi, Rockson Dafeamekpor. Afenyo-Markin issued a direct challenge to Mr Dafeamekpor, warning him against adopting a confrontational approach, particularly if he continued to act in a manner more suited to opposition politics.
"But to my respected friend, Rockson Dafeamekpor, if he thinks that he is still in opposition, and would be a bully, then he would 'meet his meter'," Afenyo-Markin cautioned, signaling that such behaviour would not be tolerated in the current Parliament.
The remarks come at a time when Parliament has been under scrutiny for the conduct of its members, especially in light of recent disruptions during the vetting of ministerial nominees.
Afenyo-Markin's statement serves as a reminder of the importance of decorum and respect in the legislative process, while also drawing attention to the ongoing dynamics within the parliamentary ranks.
