I don’t owe you any apology – Ablakwa to GRA

The Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has declined to issue any apology to the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, after the lawmaker accused him of fleeing the country with his entire nucleus family owing to alleged malfeasance.

In a social media post, Ablakwa accused President Akufo-Addo of allegedly aiding Rev. Owusu-Amoah's alleged departure pending an audit of a controversial GRA and Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) revenue assurance contract.

Mr Ablakwa demanded an explanation from the president for the GRA boss's sudden absence.

However, GRA released a statement refuting the claim, stating that Rev. Owusu-Amoah was on approved leave and would return to the office on January 15.

The GRA labelled Ablakwa's remarks as a misrepresentation of facts and malicious, requesting an apology.

Rev. Owusu-Amoah has since granted an interview in person to Joy Business, indicating he has neither fled the country nor quit his job.

In response to the GRA, Mr Ablakwa asserted that he owes no one any apology, as the GRA's statement does not discredit the findings of his impeccable parliamentary oversight.

“Let me assure the GRA that I do not owe them an apology, and they surely are not going to get one. The GRA response abysmally fails to discredit the findings of my unimpeachable parliamentary oversight.”

"Consistent with the revelations I published, the GRA has only confirmed that Ghana is the only country in the world where the President orders a crucial audit into a ginormous scandal and the head of the organisation under audit is concurrently allowed to proceed on leave and assisted to travel out of the country during the said audit — incredulous!"
