The Inter-Connect Clearing House if implemented will make it possible to have a common platform for mobile money transfer services. That’s according to the National Communication Authority.
A telecom analyst Fouad Chilabi had earlier asked financial institutions to collaborate with telecom companies in the country to provide a common platform for mobile money transfer services since the services have in recent times become the most preferred choice for a lot of people across the globe – due to the convenience and speed of it.
A common platform, according to him, will enable mobile money transfer customers access the service irrespective of the network they are on.
Principal Manager for Regulatory Administration at the National Communications Authority Kwame Baah Acheamfour says this will be possible if the inter-connect clearing house is implemented.
He said the clearing house which Ghana is introducing has a composite of 14 different entities including being connected to the bank switch.
“Mobile phones and money are now great friends. You cannot do Mobile money without Banks. The bank has a switch. Where is the telecom switch? The telecom switch belongs to six different operators. Would the bank switch be comfortable to inter-connect with six different operators when they can connect to just one for the other to take care of its constituency?”
Mr. Baah Acheamfour intimated that both the telecom companies and the financial institutions would enormously benefit from the clearing house since it will provide an interface for their products.
