The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, says his next government will aggressively tackle and win the fight against corruption in Ghana.
Mr. Mahama emphasised that corruption is damaging the country’s economy and needs urgent attention.
In an interaction with the Christian Ecumenical Council on Monday, May 20, Mr. Mahama underscored his commitment to implementing robust measures to combat corruption if elected in the forthcoming December elections.
He highlighted that his administration would prioritize transparency and accountability to curb the menace.
The former President criticised the current administration, accusing it of being embroiled in the most corrupt deals in Ghana's history.
He claimed that this corruption has brought significant hardship to the Ghanaian people, exacerbating their economic woes.
Mr. Mahama warned that if the issue is not addressed promptly, it will worsen the plight of already suffering citizens.
He promised to stage a strong and relentless war against corruption, assuring that his government would restore integrity and efficiency in public service.
In his address, Mr. Mahama called for collective efforts from all stakeholders to support the fight against corruption.
The NDC flagbearer also expressed confidence that with the right measures and a committed government, Ghana can overcome this challenge and achieve sustainable economic growth.
“The impacts of many cases of financial malfeasance, stealing, cost inflation, sole source contracts, and projects that are funded but never completed are becoming more the norm than the exemption. Recently, MPs raised the issue of the Pwalugu multi-purpose dam [project], which was supposed to be an almost $1 billion investment.
"A contract was awarded, and $12 million was paid to the contractor for absolutely no work done. There are many cases that I could cite."
“I make a firm promise that the administration that I will lead will fight the canker of corruption and defeat it," he assured.
