The Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has expressed his readiness to resign from his position as the National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, he is not the first national officer to be appointed to a ministerial position, stating that if asked by President John Mahama, he is willing to step down.
Speaking on Accra-based Citi TV on Tuesday, February 25, Opare Addo stated “Any day the President decides that I should resign, I will."
"I’m not the first national officer to be appointed as a minister. When Hon. Haruna Iddrisu served as Communication Minister, he remained the National Youth Organizer until we held Congress in Tamale and elected a new person in his place."
However, the Youth Development Minister expressed confidence in balancing both roles and managing it effectively.
“I believe I am capable. If it ever becomes too much for me, I will step down, but for now, I can handle it,” he stated.
Opare Addo further stated that he remains committed to advancing youth development initiatives while continuing to serve in his party position.
He was appointed by President Mahama as Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment and was officially sworn in after being vetted by the Appointments Committee and approved by Parliament.
