The Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has convened a strategic review meeting with the Board of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) to strengthen job creation initiatives and improve long-term employment outcomes for Ghanaian youth.
The meeting, held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, follows a similar engagement with the National Youth Authority (NYA) and forms part of a wider assessment of youth-related agencies operating under the Ministry. The review is intended to align policy priorities with effective programme delivery across the sector.
Mr Opare Addo underscored the importance of the YEA Board in translating government policy into practical, results-driven interventions.
While policy direction is set at the ministerial level, he noted that the Board bears responsibility for ensuring that programmes are efficiently implemented and deliver measurable impact.
Discussions focused on the need to expand employment opportunities while ensuring value for money across all YEA modules.
Each programme was examined to determine whether it offers sustainable livelihoods or merely provides short-term engagement with limited economic benefit.
The Minister stressed that youth employment initiatives must go beyond temporary placements and equip beneficiaries with skills and opportunities that promote lasting economic empowerment and resilience.
Describing the engagement as a critical policy exercise rather than a routine administrative meeting, Mr Opare Addo said the YEA’s mandate is central to the economic well-being of young Ghanaians.
He added that the review represents a deliberate step towards accelerating job creation, strengthening programme effectiveness and securing the future of the country’s youth through impactful employment interventions.
