The former General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong says he has missed being in the thick of the country’s politics.  He said he is hoping to come back fully into politics and is disappointed with the two major political parties in the country for allowing the political discourse to degenerate.  “I think I can make a lot of contribution and I see a lot of things happening in the country that can and should be improved. “Ghana is one of the most livable places you can ever be, so when I see the degeneration of politics I worry...,” he told Evans Mensah on PM Express, Tuesday.  Mr Agyepong was suspended indefinitely along with the party’s Chairman Paul Afoko and Second Vice Chair Sammy Crabbe for allegedly working against the interest of the NPP ahead of the 2016 general elections. The National Executive Committee of the NPP acted based on findings of the party's Disciplinary Committee and suspended the three on 10 December 2015. The suspensions followed a petition brought against the three by some NPP members. In an interview with Joy News at the NPP’s Extraordinary Delegates’ Conference in Kumasi in December 2017, Mr Agyepong said the leadership of the party must give an ear to those pushing for his reinstatement. “I think being on suspension for over two years is too long. I think our constitution doesn’t provide for that, it didn’t envisage the General Secretary of the party to be absent from his job for two years, it’s not there but I hope that good sense will prevail, I mean I’m happy with myself, I thank God for the heart that I have, I’m very content,” he said.  Reiterating his desire to be in active politics he said in 2014 when he was the NPP General Secretary, he told the NDC at their Congress that mutual respect between them and the opposition was important.   Paul Afoko, President Akufo-Addo and Kwabena Agyepong “Now, I am traumatised at how we have allowed the political discourse to degenerate...we think that when we sit on radio and TV and we are very venomous and disrespectful, that makes you a politician?” he wondered.  The former spokesperson for ex-president Kufuor said he is too young to leave politics.  Meanwhile, Mr Agyepong says his relationship with President Akufo-Addo is intact despite the controversy that characterised his suspension.  “I’ve always had a good relationship with him, he has always been like a senior brother to me for a long time. And I still see him. When he became president, I personally went home to congratulate him...he even calls…,” he said.  “If I want to see him, I call him, sometimes at night, and I go to him and we meet and talk...we’ve been friends for many years before politics,” he said.
