The Agriculture Ministry says efforts to bolster production in the country continue to suffer due to inadequate Extension Officers to assist farmers.
Director at the Ministry, Theophilus Osei Owusu, told JOY BUSINESS the ratio of Agric Extension Officers to farmers is a disappointing one to 1,000 out of the expected one to 500.
This, he said hampers the nature of services the officers render to farmers in the country.
Mr Osei Owusu disclosed this when he chaired a policy symposium in Accra under the theme, "The role of sustainable Agricultural intensification in Ghana's Agricultural modernization."
The symposium is aimed at deepening the understanding about the role of sustainable Agricultural initiative in the economic growth of Ghana.
The event was organized by the Ghana National Learning Alliance as part of its five year programme dubbed “Sustainable Agric Intensification Research and Learning in Africa.”
The programme seeks to deliver more effective agric policies and investments for enhanced economic growth in the country.
Mr Osei Owusu said the development is a wakeup call for stakeholders to complement government’s plans to handle the issue.
