Independent presidential aspirant, Dr Sam Ankrah has stated that if elected, he would mechanise agriculture.
According to him, an enabling environment would be established to support the integration of technology into farming practices through this mechanisation.
Speaking on JoyNews' The Pulse, Dr Ankrah said, “We are looking to aggressively mechanise agriculture. Again, the mechanisation of agriculture is structured in such a way that we will bring in technology and create an enabling environment. There are land tenure issues that have been a canker eating into investment in agriculture, and we will make sure to eliminate them once and for all.”
Dr Ankrah said that his government would offer mechanised farmers a guaranteed period, provided the land is free from litigation or external influence.
He explained that creating this enabling environment is a key part of the framework his government would establish if elected.
“Once you do that, you create an enabling environment. You invite technology to come in. The banks are open to funding. The reason the banks are not open to funding at this stage is that they do not want to give money if you start a project and, while you are working on it, someone comes and puts an injunction. The bank’s money is at risk. So, these are the issues that we need to address.”
