The Ministry of the Interior has noted with concern, reports from some sections of the media as well as rumours and claims making the rounds about attacks by opponents of political parties on each other in the aftermath of the recent elections.
There have also been reports making the rounds that persons who are perceived not to be sympathetic to the political parties of their landlords are also being harassed and threatened with eviction.
“The Ministry wishes to caution all those involved in acts inimical to the development of our beloved Ghana to desist from doing so.”
The statement issued by Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni, the President’s Representative for the Ministry of the Interior also advised persons or media houses that are peddling rumours and unsubstantiated claims to desist from such acts and others that may cause panic in the society.
"The Ministry further wishes to assure all Ghanaians that the government is committed to ensuring the security and protection for all persons, irrespective of their political persuasion.
“Ghana has gone through a very remarkable electoral process which has earned the country an enviable record. We as a people share one common destiny and must now look forward to the development of the country, devoid of partisan considerations.
“The Ministry wishes to condemn in no uncertain terms all acts of violence perpetrated by some of our fellow citizens, irrespective of the political persuasion they may come from.”
It said the Inspector General of Police has been tasked to ensure that any such acts of a criminal nature and other threats or violations to citizen’s rights and liberties are promptly investigated and dealt with in accordance with due process of law.
“The government wishes to assured all that it is committed to ensuring and preserving law and order and the due observance of fundamental human rights and urges all to continue to go about their normal business without fear, let or hindrance.”
