The National Youth Organiser of the Convention Peoples' Party Ernesto Yeboah is a target for suspension following a petition to the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) demanding investigations into a gift to President John Mahama.
CPP flagbearer Ivor Greenstreet during an IEA Evening Encounters for Presidential candidates hinted Ernesto Yeboah could be suspended for acting alone on the matter.
Ernesto Yeboah leads the CPP Youth League, which has accused President John Mahama of conflict of interest after Joy News investigations revealed that the President received a Ford Expedition from a Burkinabe contractor in 2012.
Two more petitions from other groups have landed at CHRAJ over the controversial gift.
The CPP Youth League's position is at variance with the position of the party's flagbearer Ivor Greenstreet who defended President Mahama in a Joy News interview.
According to him "it doesn’t “feel wrong” for the president to be accepting gifts.
At an IEA Evening Encounters for Presidential candidates, Ivor Greenstreet said Ernesto Yeboah’s condemnation was made in his individual capacity. “The party itself has not come out to state a specific position".
Ivor Greenstreet said a one-time National Youth Organiser James Kwabena Bonfeh Jnr popularly known as 'Kabilla', run into serious problems with the party for his individual stance on the STX housing deal.
James Bomfeh in 2010 filed a writ at the Supreme Court in his private capacity to restrain Parliament and the Attorney-General from considering the controversial Supplier's Credit Agreement between STX Korea and the Government of Ghana for the provision of some 30,000 housing units.
The CPP flagbearer also noted that he was once suspended for a year for taking an unendorsed position.
Insiders in the party have revealed that there are plans to hold a Central Committee meeting to discuss punitive actions against the CPP National Youth Organiser.
Meanwhile, the CPP UK-Ireland branch is backing the National Youth Organiser for leading a campaign to get the President investigated.
The international branch of the party has gotten wind of the moves to suspend Ernesto Yeboah and is prevailing on the flagbearer to desist from any such attempts, insiders say.
