The Vice President John Mahama has rebuffed criticisms that his government is not committed to fighting corruption.
Speaking with VOA’s Shaka Ssali the Vice President said the accusations are “unfair” and “damaging,” especially when those criticisms are coming from within his party.
The ex-first family has incessantly accused President John Mills and his government of aiding and abetting corruption.
Mr. Rawlings insists government has done very little in prosecuting alleged corrupt former officials under the New Patriotic Party regime.
In a new twist to the allegation, Mr. Rawlings at a June 4 celebration in Kumasi, alleged that some high ranking members of the Mills government have embezzled state funds with impunity. He did not name names.
The allegations have taken a turn to the worse in the run up to the July NDC congress.
But in an interview with VOA, the Vice President said many of the allegations are unfair.
According to him, government has dealt decisively with corruption allegations.
“All cases that have been investigated for which we think there is a prima facie case we have packaged and sent to the court.
“There are other cases that are currently before the economic and organised crime unit... when those dockets are ready they will be sent to court and the Judiciary will determine if such persons have been guilty or not,” he said.
He said a lot of the criticisms have been unfair.
“I will say a lot of the criticisms have been unfair. It is very damaging because from within,” he noted.
