Over fifty aggrieved zonal and polling station executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Jomoro Constituency have vehemently protested against the candidature of Sylvester Noumah Daddieh for the vacant District Chief Executive position. Speaking at a press conference in Half Assini on Friday, the spokesperson for the aggrieved executives, Mr Mohammed Abdullah-Boafo, who is the NDC Zonal Vice Chairman at Half Assini, said although Mr George William Somiah, an educationist and Mr Sylvester Noumah Daddieh, the Constituency Secretary for the party presented their filing documents for the vacant DCE position after Mr Victor Nyianyi Kablan’s appointment was revoked by the president in March this year, the constituency chairman, Mr Anthony Kwofie who is supposed to forward the applications to the appropriate quarters for the DCE position, deliberately dropped that of Mr Somiah and submitted that of Mr Daddieh, as being the sole candidate for the DCE position. This, according to Mr Abdullah-Boafo, amounted to gross misrepresentation of the district and a calculated attempt by the constituency chairman to prevent Mr Somiah from vying for the DCE position. He noted that the constituency chairman and Mr Daddieh had lost the support of the NDC supporters in the constituency and that they would resist any attempt to impose Daddieh on them. He therefore called on the hierarchy of the party to intervene to investigate the circumstances under which Mr Daddieh was the only one called for interview in Accra on April 21, this year for the vacant DCE position. He also appealed to President John E.A. Mills to intervene in the impasse by ensuring that Somiah, also get interviewed for the DCE position to allow fairness and transparency to prevail and avert any chaotic situation in the constituency. The zonal and polling station executives who were drawn from ten zonal branches of the constituency warned that if nothing is done by the party’s hierarchy and President Mills goes ahead to nominate Daddieh as the DCE for the Jomoro district, the NDC supporters, zonal and polling station executives in the constituency would demonstrate against the president’s nominee. They expressed their preference for Mr Somiah as the right person for the vacant DCE position in view of his good human relations, selfless and loyalty to the party even in trying times and appealed to the president to nominate him. Mr Peter Ndah, the NDC zonal vice chairman for Takinta noted that Daddieh had questionable character and cannot be trusted to hold the high office of the DCE in the district. He accused Daddieh who is the Constituency Secretary of the party for allegedly pocketing monies meant for victory party celebration after Mr Lee Ocran, former MP for Jomoro won the parliamentary seat in 2004 general elections as well as embezzling GH¢ 1, 000 released to him by the former DCE, Mr Victor Nyianyi Kablan for political activities in the constituency. He alleged that one staunch NDC businessman, Mr Dan Boso who hails from the Jomoro Distict, also gave GH¢1, 000 to Daddieh for party picnic in the constituency after the 2008 elections but he embezzled the money and failed to pay back in spite of being prosecuted in court. According to him, the popularity of the NDC in the constituency is gradually waning and if Mr Daddieh is nominated as the DCE for the area, the party would suffer humiliating defeat in next year’s elections in view of his deceitful and poor human relations with party members. Most of the zonal and polling station executives at the press conference corroborated the allegations leveled against Mr Daddieh and threatened to demonstrate against him should the president nominate him for the DCE position. When the GNA contacted Mr Sylvester Noumah Daddieh on the allegations leveled against him by the zonal and polling station executives, he vehemently denied them saying “This is my time to be made the District Chief Executive in the district in view of my loyalty towards the party for over two decades even when the NDC was in opposition and my detractors are bent on thwarting that feat”. He said he is the obvious choice for the vacant DCE position and nothing can change that from happening and pledged to serve the people of Jomoro if he is nominated by the president. Source: GNA
