Joy FM, in collaboration with the MTN Ghana Foundation, launched pilot reading clubs for 5 communities in Accra Monday under the Joy FM-MTN Read 100 Project, an educational initiative.The project, which was initiated through reading clinics for selected communities in 2010, aims to whip up interest in reading among basic school pupils and sharpen their literacy skills.Speaking to Joy News, MTN Ghana Foundation Executive Director Cynthia Lumor explained that the collaboration fits the Foundation’s critical focus on education.She said that the project would ultimately facilitate the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on universal education. She also announced that an investment of GH¢75,865 would go towards logistics, stationery, training and other personnel-related costs.Some beneficiaries who spoke to Joy News expressed their excitement about the project, reporting that their reading and vocabulary abilities have improved tremendously.Click here for photos of the event.
