Irate National Democratic Congress youth in the Kade constituency in the Eastern region on Monday seized and locked up the National Youth Employment offices in protestation of the number of job allocations given to them.
Jacob Nanful, Kade constituency executive of the party explained to Citi News the seizure was to register their displeasure over wrong doings in the constituency.
Explaining further, Jacob Nanful said the previous New Patriotic Party government employed 500 people from the Kade constituency for the NYEP which was subsequently reduced to 42 by the NDC government due financial constraints. He again alleged that the 42 was even further pruned to 21 with the other 21 alloted to the Akwatia constituency.
Nanful said what broke the camels back was Baba Jamal's (Eastern regional minister’s) allocation of 100 protocol list to the Akwatia constituency alone (giving Akwatia 121 youths to be employed).
“Akwatia constituency is now 121 and Kade is 21 which is bad. We have 34 electoral areas in the Kade constituency and 20 electoral areas in the Akwatia constituency. Kade constituency is bigger than Akwatia constituency and they (youths) don’t understand the reason why Akwatia has 121 and Kade 21,” he lamented.
Reports say NDC constituency executives are currently locked up a crunch meeting with the Bureau for National Investigation (BNI) and the district Police command at the NDC district office in Kade.
