Karpowership Ghana Limited has held a stakeholder engagement with the Tema Manhean Fishmongers and Smokers Association to get them acquainted with Karpower’s operations.
The engagement was in line with Karpower’s principle of having transparent and sustainable relations with its stakeholders.
According to the communications officer of Karpowership Ghana, Miss Sandra Amarquaye, it is important to regularly undertake such engagements so their stakeholders understand their business and how they operate.
She said they had had a similar engagement with the fishermen so they thought it best to engage the fishmongers as well.
Ms Amarquaye speaking in the local Ga local language to demystify Karpower’s operations to the fishmongers. She stated that Karpowership has been committed to supplying sustainable and affordable electricity to Ghana, since it began producing power in December 2015.
She also explained that Karadeniz Powership AyÅŸegül Sultan, with an installed capacity of 235MW, has been running efficiently and has been producing, on average 210 MW of uninterrupted electrical energy.
According to her, the second ship which is under construction will arrive later this year to provide the 450mw contractual capacity.
She further explained that with the use of Low Sulphur Heavy Fuel Oil, electricity produced by Karpowership is much cheaper than the use of crude oil and natural gas.
Miss Amarquaye also cited some CSR interventions Karpower had undertaken for the Tema community since it began operations last year.

A Q&A section with the Tema Manhean Fishmongers and Smokers Association
“We have donated learning materials for some schools in the Tema New Town community,” adding, “We also donated fishing nets to the fishermen; we also presented resource materials to the Tema New Town Police Station."
Also, the company has provided potable water for seven community schools, the Tema Manhean Community Clinic, Tema New Town Police station and the Tema Fishing Harbour, by placing water tanks in 13 different locations.
This year, she said the company has plans of donating more educational material and providing a bursary for brilliant but needy students in the community.
According to the fishmongers, the engagement was an eye-opening experience for them as Karpower’s presentation went a long way to debunking the rumours they had, hitherto, heard about the Powership.
Secretary of the Association, Cynthia Commey, said they had realized that the rumours that Karpower was the cause of the high electricity tariffs were not true, adding, "this engagement has educated us on issues we heard as rumors,” she said.
Ms Amarquaye reiterated that as a strategic partner, Karpowership is committed to Ghana’s development and will continue providing all Ghanaians reliable, sustainable, and affordable electricity.
She added Karpowership would continue to undertake CSR projects in the community.
