Counsel for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin North, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has stated that his client will enter an appearance if he is dragged to court by NDC financier, Alfred Agbesi Woyome.
Mr. Woyome has threatened to sue Mr Agyapong for what he says is the blatant character assassination over the GHS 42 million judgement debt paid to him (Woyome) by the state due to what the court deemed to be wrongful termination of contract.
An unrepentant Kennedy Agyapong told Adom FM earlier this week that he will ensure that Mr Woyome is brought to book for the fraud he has perpetrated on the state.
But Mr Agyapong’s attorney, Nana Obiri Boahen, told Radio Gold on Wednesday that his client will go the full haul if he is served.
“If somebody sues you; you are dragged to court can you decide not to go? Definitely you will honour [it]; you file an appearance. Where you don’t want to file an appearance [or] where you don’t want to contest then you can have a way of settling the matter out of court. But in this particular case, I can assure you from the bottom of my heart that we will fully contest the matter,” he indicated.
As far as he concerned, there is more to the case than what has been put in the public domain. He says, per the various comments on the controversy, he is certain something fishy is amiss and that the matter cannot be laid to rest.
“I believe if we were to be, with due respect to your listeners, a politically correct society, I think that heads would have rolled by now,” the former minister of state at the Ministry of Interior said.
He however hesitated to delve any further into the matter, remarking that it is not professional for him to comment on a case when his client has not been served, promising that when Mr. Agyapong is served, they will respond appropriately.
Touching on the minority’s call for the resignation of the former Attorney General (AG), Betty Mould Iddrisu, the seasoned lawyer said he does not believe it is the right thing to do as she is no longer the AG.
He however does not fault the minority for calling for her head, insisting the minority did so in the supreme interest of the country.
“If she decides to resign, I think it would be good for her,” he stated.
