The High Court in Koforidua has dismissed an election petition challenging the election of Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Member of Parliament for the Nsawam-Adoagyiri constituency, in the 2024 general election.
The petition, which sought to invalidate his election, was struck out by the court on Thursday, following a legal application filed by the Director of Legal Affairs of the New Patriotic Party, Gary Nimako Marfo Esq.
Presiding judge, His Lordship Krofa Addae, ruled in favour of an application to dismiss the case. He said the court found no merit in the petitioner's claims and held that the results as declared by the Electoral Commission reflected the true will of the people.
As part of the judgement, the court awarded a cost of GH¢25,000 against the petitioner.
Mr Annoh-Dompreh, who currently serves as the Minority Chief Whip in Parliament, welcomed the court’s decision, viewing it as a vindication of both his electoral victory and the confidence reposed in him by the electorate of Nsawam-Adoagyiri.
The plaintiff in the case is Amenorpe Philibert Fummey, the parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
