The Management of the Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has rescinded an earlier decision to defer about 648 students who have not registered for the Second Semester of the 2022/2023 Academic Year.
This follows an emergency meeting held by the Academic Board after media reports alleged that about 2,000 students had been sacked for failing to pay their fees.
Earlier, management had clarified that no student had been sacked but rather students who have not registered for the Second Semester of 2022/2023 Academic Year, were asked to defer their programmes for that semester after the university made several concessions to get all students to register.
Management again explained that per the academic calendar of the University, as approved by the Academic Board, the deadline for students to register was May 29, 2023.
However, despite an extension of the deadline to July, a significant number of students had not paid or registered.
“After these many concessions, there are still 648 students who have not registered, as opposed to the 2,000 that some media houses had stated,” hence the decision to ask the students to defer.
But in a new release following the emergency meeting, management says a special examination will be organised for non-registered students after the End-of-Second Semester Examinations (2022/2023).
It explained that, only affected students who have paid their school fees in full will qualify to write the Special Examinations.

RECONSIDERATION OF NON-REGISTERED STUDENTS–SECOND SEMESTER (2022/2023)
The University Community and the General Public are hereby informed that the Academic Board at its Emergency Meeting held on Monday, 14th August 2023 discussed the deferment of programme of some students in respect of the non-registration for the Second Semester (2022/2023 Academic Year).
The Board decided as follows:
1. That, Special Examinations shall be organised later for non-registered students after the End-of-Second Semester Examinations (2022/2023).
2. That, only affected students who have paid their school fees in full and appropriate penalties shall qualify to write the Special Examinations.
3. That, modalities for the Special Examinations shall be communicated in due course. All affected students who are interested should write to their Heads of Department with their student details for consideration latest by Tuesday, 22nd August 2023.
Note: Affected Students on industrial attachment/internship are included in this arrangement.
