The Management of the Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has rescinded an earlier decision to defer about 648 students who have not registered for the Second Semester of the 2022/2023 Academic Year.
This follows an emergency meeting held by the Academic Board after media reports alleged that about 2,000 students had been sacked for failing to pay their fees.
Earlier, management had clarified that no student had been sacked but rather students who have not registered for the Second Semester of 2022/2023 Academic Year, were asked to defer their programmes for that semester after the university made several concessions to get all students to register.
Management again explained that per the academic calendar of the University, as approved by the Academic Board, the deadline for students to register was May 29, 2023.
However, despite an extension of the deadline to July, a significant number of students had not paid or registered.
“After these many concessions, there are still 648 students who have not registered, as opposed to the 2,000 that some media houses had stated,” hence the decision to ask the students to defer.
But in a new release following the emergency meeting, management says a special examination will be organised for non-registered students after the End-of-Second Semester Examinations (2022/2023).
It explained that, only affected students who have paid their school fees in full will qualify to write the Special Examinations.
