Aide to ex-president John Kufuor has described as reckless and irresponsible comments made by the former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Tsatsu Tsikata when he appeared before the Judgement Debt Commission.
In a statement Frank Agyekum said the measures taken by the ex-president to restructure the Corporation were based on expert advice from competent committee "set up to clear the mess that had been created at the Corporation over the years."
The statement is in reaction to comments made by Tsatsu Tsikata when he appeared before the Judgement Debt Commission, Tuesday, to assist in unravelling the circumstances surrounding the sale of an oil drill ship belonging to GNPC and a judgement debt said to be owed and paid to the French bank, Societe Generale.
Tsikata damned the Kufuor administration for the sale of the oil ship, insisting the ship was in good condition; was making lots of revenue for the country at the time and needed not to have been sold.
He accused the president of acting more or less as a debt collector for the French Bank.
The ex-president's office has taken serious exception to the comments made by Tsikata before the Commission.
"The office of Former President John Agyekum Kufuor reacts as irresponsible and unwarranted comments by Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata, former chief executive officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), before the Sole Commissioner on Judgment Debts that sought to impute wrong-doing to the former President in the drill ship affair," the statement read.
Agyekum charged the Commission to get to the bottom of the scandal and lay the truth bare.
Below is the full statement.
