In a historic move aimed at deepening ties between two prominent Ghanaian kingdoms, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, the Kwahuhene, has been invited to chair the Grand Durbar of the 2024 Hogbetsotso Festival.

This gesture from the Anlo Dukor was officially extended during a meeting on September 16, 2024, at Abene, the traditional seat of the Kwahuhene.

The invitation followed a series of carefully coordinated visits by an Advance Party from the Anlo Dukor, led by Togbi Awlavi IV, with Ken Kpedor and Godway Hanyabui, who laid the groundwork for the official request. The main delegation, led by Togbi Amey Zegu II, arrived in Kwahu the following day, joined by several influential leaders, including Togbi Ashiagbor IV (Dusifia of Anlo-Weta), Togbi Adoblanui II of Woe, and Togbi Subo II of Anloga.

During the meeting, Togbi Ashiagbor IV introduced the Anlo delegation, while Togbi Amey Zegu II extended the formal invitation. Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II graciously accepted, expressing his enthusiasm about the growing relationship between the Kwahu and Anlo kingdoms. In his acceptance remarks, Daasebre emphasized his deep personal connection with the Anlo people and underscored the significance of collaboration between the two kingdoms. He spoke of their shared values and the potential benefits that such a partnership could bring to both communities.

Daasebre also noted that the 2024 Hogbetsotso Festival would be a joint celebration between the Kwahu and Anlo people, pledging his full support to make it a memorable occasion. His acceptance to chair the Grand Durbar signals the beginning of a stronger bond between the two cultures, with promises of future collaborations.

The Hogbetsotso Festival, an annual event celebrated by the Anlo people to mark their migration from Notsie in present-day Togo, is set to be a grand celebration in 2024, enhanced by the inclusion of Kwahu traditions. With Daasebre at the helm of the Grand Durbar, this year’s festival is poised to be a significant symbol of unity, shared heritage, and cultural exchange between the two communities.
