The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, says Ghana’s 69 years of independence represent a major milestone, highlighting the country’s resilience and steady progress despite periodic challenges.
Speaking ahead of the country’s independence anniversary, he noted that although Ghana has experienced both successes and setbacks over the years, the nation has remained united and continues to build an inclusive society.
“Well, I think that 69 years of nationhood is a very significant achievement. Over the years, we have had our ups and downs as a country, but by and large, we’ve managed to hold ourselves together,” he said in an interview on Joy FM's Middaynews on Thursday, March 5.
According to him, Ghana has built a nation characterised by tolerance, particularly in religious and social relations, which has helped maintain stability.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu acknowledged that while the country has faced difficulties at certain periods, it has also made steady progress in several areas of development.
He added that since the assumption of office by the current administration led by President John Dramani Mahama, significant efforts have been made to strengthen the economy and improve social services.
“Currently, since the advent of this government, a lot has been done to improve the economy. The economy is in much better shape than it was before,” he stated.
The government spokesperson also pointed to investments being made in key social sectors such as education and healthcare as evidence of ongoing development efforts.
He said these developments are reflected in the theme for this year’s independence celebration — “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope.” He added that the theme captures the general national sentiment and the government’s commitment to improving the lives of citizens.
