The President of the University of Ghana’s Student Representative Council (SRC), Joshua Dogbe, has described the current election dispute on his campus as a test of leadership.

Mr Dogbe who had a controversy ridden-election process during his own time as a candidate for the student leadership position said election disputes are a common feature of student politics at the university.

Joshua Dogbe was dragged to court for election breaches as the petitioners argued it was unconstitutional for him to run unopposed.

The court upheld the plea of the petitioners - a decision he contested and moved for appeal. On appeal, the judicial board reversed its decision which had him stay in office.

When asked by CampusOnHitz host Gloria Nyarku what he made of the current election impasse, Mr Dogbe said “everything is possible, it depends on the extent to which either parties can prove their case” He adds that “the case is still within the domain of the student movement and it has its own processes. We have our own constitution which is tried and tested, so we are solving our own problems”.

The Legon SRC President claims the student leadership was unaware of the e-voting software developer’s arrest by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).

The BNI picked up the software developer Stephen Forson after allegations he rigged elections for one of the candidates.

Mr Dogbe says the student leadership finds nothing untoward about the BNI’s intervention since the matter became of huge public interest.

The current SRC president is thus encouraging both parties involved in the election dispute to exhaust the electoral system as enshrined in the constitution of the student governing body.
