The Member of Parliament for Central Tongu, Alexander Gabby Hottordze has called on stakeholders in the flooded areas to unite and advocate for a state of emergency to be declared.
He acknowledged the urgent need for a unified effort to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the floods caused by the spillage of excess water from the Akosombo hydroelectric dam.
He made the call when an astute member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party, Leslie Mensah Tameklo, donated essential supplies to displaced communities affected by the spillage.
Mr. Hottordze recognized the potential for collective action to expedite relief and recovery efforts.
"We are appealing to very influential groups like the Chiefs and Queen mothers, notable people, very well-meaning citizens of Volta Region, let's press for a state of emergency", he said.
Mr. Leslie Mensah Tameklo provided 1,200 bags of water, 200 bags of rice, cooking oil, milk, and sugar to be distributed to victims in the affected communities.

Recognizing the dire circumstances the victims faced, Mr. Tameklo emphasized the importance of focusing on the aftermath of the disaster to lessen the effects when the flood water recedes.
He stressed that it was crucial to look beyond political differences and focus on the well-being of the affected communities and expressed his commitment to supporting the victims.

"There is one other aspect which we have to deal with in terms of the aftermath effects when the water has receded. The effect of the water on infrastructure, and the difficulties of clearing the mud”, Mr. Leslie said.
