Due to the rise in reports of land disputes and ownerships, Ghana’s most authoritative news analysis programme, Newsfile focused on the new Land Act that has been enacted to curb the issue.
JoyNews’ Samson Lardy Anyenini hosted the Lands Minster, Samuel Abu Jinapor; Lecturer at University of Ghana, Kwame Gyan and former Director at the Public and Vested Land Management Division of the Land Commission; Kofi Owusu Poku.
The three-hour programme which was titled; "New Land Law, True Revolution Or Facade?" focused on the following topics;
• Overview of challenges of the lands sector generally and the policy and legislative interventions implemented to address the challenges.

• Challenges of the land sub-sector, forestry sub-sector and mining sector as well as the cross-sectoral challenges. Then we zero in on the land sub-sector.
• Institutional structures for the land sector generally and focus on the Lands Commission Act, 2008 (Act 767)
• A look into the Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036). We go into the historical background - Where we started - Where we are now - Its significant thematic areas/coverage, innovations, progressive development and codification of some customary law principles or judicial decisions.
• General failures of implementation. Good legislation is not enough. Vibrant institutions, manned by competent persons, etc necessary for effectiveness.
