President of policy think tank IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has criticised Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, the Minister of state nominee for Public Sector Reforms, suggesting that she is not suitable for the role.
According to Mr Cudjoe, after listening to Akanvariba’s vetting on Monday, he did not perceive enough enthusiasm or conviction from her to suggest she could lead meaningful reforms in the country’s public sector.
"All she said yesterday for me was like a normal administrator, somebody pushing papers, that was all I heard. There was nothing really powerful," Cudjoe said on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Tuesday, February 25.
He said, "I didn’t see the urge and somebody who has the energy to go around to do some of the things”.
I wasn’t convinced at all. I believe she will do nothing, zero" he reiterated.
Cudjoe also argued that unless Akanvariba is given "real power", she will be unable to enact any significant reforms.
He stressed that the ministry she has been appointed to is structured as a "reclusive entity", which he believes will hinder any efforts to reform the public sector.
Following her appointment by President John Mahama, some critics have voiced concerns about her lack of experience and the perception that she lacks the strength to lead the public sector reform ministry effectively.
