The New Patriotic Party has asked its supporters nationwide to be very vigilant to police Sunday’s runoff.
National Chairman, Peter Mac Manu told a gathering of party followers at the Freedom and Justice Park, Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra that victory will definitely smile at the party after the polls.
Addressing a final rally of the party ahead of the presidential runoff and in place of flag-bearer Nana Akufo-Addo, Peter Mac Manu urged NPP supporters to turn up in their numbers to vote for Nana Addo to ensure a resounding victory.
He said given a history of presidential runoffs in the country, the NPP is highly favoured to win and assured the supporters that Nana Addo would be elected Ghana’s next President.
Mac Manu who spoke Twi, said when the late Dr. Hilla Limann won the presidency from Victor Owusu in 1979, he led the race in the first round, the same trend that ensued between President J.A. Kufuor and Professor Mills in the 2000 elections. He said per that trend, Nana Addo who led the presidential race during the December 7 general election, would be the obvious choice.
According to him, even on that occasion, the NPP failed to win the presidency one touch because the party bought into a ploy by the National Democratic Congress and expended its energies needlessly.
He said prior to the December 7 poll, the NDC raised several false alarms of the NPP colliding with the Electoral Commission and the police to rig the election as well as the NPP teaming up with the Judiciary to frustrate the NDC or deny them justice should they go to court over election disputes.
He said while the NDC were crying wolf, and after which the NPP dissipated its energies and time, the NDC was rather perfecting their criminal skills to rob the NPP of outright victory, assuring the followers that this time round, the NPP was wide awake.
Likening the NDC to criminals he said operated at the Kejetia Lorry Park in Kumasi, Ashanti, he said the skill of the Kejetia thieves is proverbial, for while they shout ‘Thief! Thief! Thief!’ they would be doing so in the hope that some traders would abandon their wares in pursuit of the non-existent thief, allowing the criminals to rob their unsuspecting victims.
Nana Addo was expected to address the rally, however he could not make it and according to party officials, he was attending a prayer meeting.
Nana Addo, according to Mac Manu, appealed to the party foot soldiers to forgive of any ills the party had committed against them and to turn up on Sunday to vote. He said the NPP cannot thank them enough for all the hard work and sacrifices they make for the party and assured them that he would build an interactive, stronger and a more united party and also address their concerns.
Several party activists took turns to address the rally which was transmitted live on Joy FM.
